Visit the North Dakota State Fair
The North Dakota State Fair is the reason so many people travel to Minot in July. As one of the biggest summer events, the fair offers live entertainment, carnival rides, and classic fair food. If you’re an animal lover, check out the sea lion shows, racing pigs, and miniature horse performances. Don’t miss the circus comedian, incredible magic show, and crowd-favorite pie and hot dog eating contests as well. Something is happening around every corner, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy!

Explore a Local Family Attraction

The Magic City Discovery Center is a fun stop for families with young children. With more than 150 hands-on exhibits across 12 interactive galleries, visitors can build towering creations, explore digital experiences, and discover the science behind everyday life. Every exhibit is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving, making it easy for kids and adults alike to learn by doing while creating unforgettable memories together.

Just minutes from the fairgrounds, Roosevelt Park Zoo is another great family stop. You can wander shaded paths and see wildlife at your own pace. It’s located in Roosevelt Park along the Souris River, so it has an easygoing feel the whole time you’re there. If you’re looking for something simple and fun to enjoy with the family, it’s definitely worth going to! While you’re at it, stop by the giraffe enclosure to say hello to Khari, the baby giraffe born in November!

Add a Little Friendly Competition to Your Day
The Putt District’s glow-in-the-dark mini golf is a one-of-a-kind experience you don’t want to miss. It has 14 unique blacklight-lit holes where every round is packed with fun for the whole family! There are also board games, arcade games, and consoles for every age at The Clubhouse. Come check out their new menu that now includes onion rings, waffle fries, pizza, and churro bites!
One of the best parts? Jar & Cone is located right inside The Putt District. Treat yourself to a delicious hand-scooped ice cream cone, bowl, or root beer float before or after your round of mini golf. On a warm July day, it’s a refreshing way to cool down!

Relax and Unwind
Downtown Minot is an easy place to slow down for a bit and explore on foot. Iron Horse Kitchen and Bar is a go-to spot for a sit-down meal, offering a full menu with burgers, sandwiches, salads, and shareable plates. They are well known for their steak frites as well as their hand crafted cocktails that will help you get a well needed recharge.

Citizens Alley adds a little color to the downtown experience. It has murals, public art, and string lights that illuminate the area. They also hold events for the community and live performances. During the fair, there will be open pickleball competitions, yoga in the alley, and if you happen to arrive the day before the fair starts, there will be live music by Cécilia and Blue House starting at 6:15 PM. You surely won’t want to miss this!
